Hello, lovely mama! Welcome to my little corner of the internet.
October has finally arrived, and you know what that means—Halloween is around the corner! I love this time of year. The crisp air, cosy sweaters, and the magic sparkling in our children's eyes make it truly special.
But celebrating Halloween with a two-year-old can be a bit exhausting and challenging. I remember spending hours on Pinterest last year. I’d see these beautiful, perfect Halloween crafts and think, "Oh, my sweet little one would love making this!"
Oh, how wrong I was.
Five minutes into the craft, we smeared bright orange paint all over the living room carpet. My child's hair matted with sticky white glue. Glitter was stuck to the cat. It was a total disaster, and I actually cried while cleaning the floor.
I learned a big lesson that day. Two-year-olds don't care about perfect crafts. They want to touch things, explore, and spend time with us. And as busy moms, we certainly don't need extra stress or extra cleanup in our daily routines. We already have enough laundry to fold!
That’s why I’ve put together this list of super-easy Halloween crafts for two-year-olds. The best part? They are mess-free! Yes, you read that right. You can make these adorable Halloween crafts without the hassle of a big cleanup. If your child is slightly older, you can also check out our curated list of Halloween toddler crafts activities for 3-year-olds for more age-appropriate ideas.
So, let’s create some lovely Halloween memories with your little ones.
- No stress for mama: You do not have to watch them like a hawk every single second. You can actually enjoy the moment and smile with your child.
- Great for little hands: These activities help build their hand muscles and coordination without the frustration of messy tools.
- Quick setup and cleanup: As moms, our time is precious. These activities take less than five minutes to set up and almost zero time to clean up.
- Happy toddlers: Toddlers can feel our stress. When we are relaxed, they feel safe and happy to create.
- A piece of white paper or cardstock
- Orange and black washable paint
- A large, clear plastic Ziploc bag (gallon size works best)
- Tape
- First, draw a simple shape of a pumpkin on your white paper and cut it out.
- Put a few small squirts of orange paint directly onto the paper pumpkin. Add one tiny dot of black paint if you want them to make a funny face or mix colors.
- Carefully slide the wet paper pumpkin inside the large Ziploc bag.
- Zip the bag completely shut. To be extra safe, tape the top of the bag closed so little fingers cannot open it.
- Tape the whole bag down onto the table or highchair tray so it does not slide around.
- Now, let your toddler push, squish, and smear the paint across the pumpkin through the plastic bag!
- Clear contact paper (you can find this at the dollar store or online)
- Black marker
- White cotton balls or small scraps of white tissue paper
- Tape
- Peel the backing off a piece of contact paper.
- Tape it to your wall or a low window with the sticky side facing out toward you.
- Use your black marker to draw a big outline of a friendly ghost on the sticky paper.
- Give your toddler a small bowl filled with fluffy white cotton balls or pieces of white tissue paper.
- Show them how to press the cotton balls onto the sticky ghost.
- A clear Ziploc bag
- Cheap clear hair gel or water
- A few drops of green or purple food coloring
- Large plastic googly eyes or foam shapes
- Strong tape
- Open the Ziploc bag and squirt a good amount of hair gel inside.
- Add a drop or two of food coloring to make it look spooky and bright.
- Drop in several large googly eyes or cute Halloween foam stickers (like bats or little hats).
- Push the air out of the bag and zip it tight. Use heavy tape to seal all four sides of the bag so nothing leaks.
- Tape the monster bag down to the table.
- A paper plate cut into triangle slices (like pieces of pie)
- Yellow and orange construction paper cut into small squares
- A glue stick (glue sticks are much less messy than liquid glue!)
- Take a triangle slice of the paper plate. Show your toddler a picture of a candy corn so they see the white top, orange middle, and yellow bottom.
- Rub the glue stick all over the paper plate slice for them. This keeps things easy.
- Put the small squares of orange and yellow paper into two separate bowls.
- Help your toddler press the yellow paper on the bottom part and the orange paper in the middle. The top of the white paper plate stays clean!
- Follow their lead: If your two-year-old only wants to play for three minutes and then walk away, let them go. Their attention span is very short right now, and that is completely normal.
- Talk and laugh: Use this time to talk to your baby. Say things like, "Look at this bright orange color!" or "Feel how soft this cotton ball is!" It helps their brain grow and builds their vocabulary.
- Turn on some cozy music: Put on some sweet, silly kid-friendly Halloween songs in the background. It sets such a lovely, happy mood for the whole room.
- Take a picture: Don't worry about keeping every single piece of paper forever. Take a sweet picture of your toddler holding their craft. Their little smile is the real treasure anyway.
